Texas Center for Defense of Life (TCDL) to be incorporated as nonprofit pro-life legal organization for Texas

Formed to provide legal representation and support to pro-life organizations and individuals and aggressively defend the sanctity of human life in state and federal courts

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Center for Defense of Life (TCDL), will be incorporated tomorrow as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (IRS tax status pending), to coincide with the 38th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down state laws barring abortion in America.

“Every innocent life deserves to be protected from birth to death,” said TCDL President, CEO, and Founder Greg Terra. “TCDL is dedicated to providing legal representation and support to pro-life organizations and individuals in Texas, and to aggressively defending the sanctity of human life in Texas and federal courts from conception through natural death.”

TCDL will represent girls and women being coerced to have an abortion against their will, as well as provide general legal support to Texas-based pregnancy resource centers and other pro-life groups. They will also represent non-violent pro-life protestors charged with criminal offenses; provide legal opinions, briefs, and testimony in support of pro-life legislation; file lawsuits against abortion providers who have violated the law; and handle a variety of other pro-life legal matters arising in Texas.

TCDL’s founders, Terra and Stephen Casey (Vice President and Chief Counsel) gained national attention last October when they filed suit on behalf of a 16-year-old Austin girl whose parents were coercing her–against her will–to have an abortion.

Within a week, Terra and Casey successfully obtained a temporary restraining order (TRO) in the case, and were later granted a permanent injunction from a Texas District Court judge in Austin on behalf of the girl. Due to their efforts, the girl now safely resides at a central Texas maternity home, pending the birth of her child this spring.

“Stephen and I have been involved in the pro-life movement, both individually and collectively, for many years,” said Terra. “Although we were handling other pro-life legal matters before the forced-abortion case, that case finally provided us with the impetus to form a pro-life legal organization for one of the nation’s largest states. We learned that forced-abortion situations are too common in Texas, and we began to see the need for an organization to handle other pro-life legal matters, as well.”

“The situation is dire indeed; the need is great, and although there are similar organizations in a few other states, TCDL provides a truly unique defense for innocent life and pregnant mothers in Texas,” said Casey. “Typically, pro-life legal work involves representation of the preborn, but it can also involve helping those who are medically incapacitated, or those who some consider as having a ‘diminished quality of life.’”

“We are also proud to be allied with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), based in Scottsdale, Arizona, which is the nation’s foremost Christian legal organization protecting and preserving the sanctity of life, religious liberty, marriage, and the family,” Terra and Casey stated.

“We are both very excited about what the future may hold for the organization,” the two founders added. “The Roe v. Wade case originated in Texas; perhaps a case to reverse Roe and its progeny will likewise begin right here in Texas.”

In order to support the organization financially, checks can be mailed to: TCDL, 501 S. Austin Ave., Ste. 1130, Georgetown, TX 78626; payments by credit or debit card can be made by calling the TCDL office at (512) 763-9068.
